Vandhey or Bandhey ?

one interesting incident today.. that day after Indradhanush (saturday).. there is a guy named Raja alias NavArun (our neighbour, whose of our age.. he is a bengali.. his name's bengali pronouncation is noburoon weird isnt it ? )..

we usually used to tease him.. about the bengali's pronouncation of V as B, A as O and kidding about the bengali babes hectic figure ;-) as rassagulla tins (pronounce it as rossogulla..)

in the festival.. they were singing Bakhim Chandar Chattarjee's Vandhe Matharam (which was told as A.R.Rehman version of vandhe matharam..).. we were all excited nowto hear that song.. that too A.R.'s song here in east..

all our excitement turned to a bit of Shock and Laughter when we heard the songbeing sung as BANDHEY MATHARAM (not the BANDH famous in bengal or BANDH/ball famous in tamilnadu..)...

all in shock first.. we didnt believe their pronouncation could extend so deep to changethis patriotic song itself...

Actually the fact is .. in the bengali language you dont have the V kinda pronouncation.. just like the 'F' pronouncation in tamil... how would you transliterate FIRE in tamil,...you would say (PAYAR).. am i rite.. replacing 'F' by 'PA'... same way is the A transforms toO in bengali.... they dont call JHAL (water..).. they call it as JHOL.. thatz why north indianseasily identify a bengali... ;-)

then after realizing it.. the shock burst into laughter..

i was teasing raja (our neighbour) .. with this stuff.. how could you ppl change thatsong.. then he came with a fact that.. the author is a bengali.. and this poem comes in one ofhis bengali novel.. and its a bengali song.. BANDHEY means BHANTHANAM (ie.. VANTHANAMin hindhi..).. which means.. pray.. so the original song is bengali.. and what he sung was correct..

this was the second shock to me... nowhere i've heard this song to be a bengali song..then... since i didnt have any proof.. i have to discontinue the discussion..

next day raja came and asked sorry.. when i asked what for.. he started explaining..

Bakhim Chandar Chattarjee is a bengali, he wrote a novel called Anandha Mut in bengali..during freedom fighting times.. in that he wrote this song alone in SANSKRIT.. even thoughthe entire novel is in bengali.. this song alone is in SANSKRIT.. in praise of mother land..so that it could be sung all over India.. so i was wrong yesterday.. and sorry for it..

i didnt believe it.. usually even for normal such mistakes.. ppl never show others that they were wrong.. but this fellow.. was ready to accept a mistake which he made in regards of his mothertongue.. that was a gud one from him..

so at the end of the day.. i had got some general knowledge.. and learnt how youshould be when you argue things and also when you realize your mistake..

Apparam eppa paar rava rava nu Bengali la pesuvaanga...Onnum puriyaadhu....Ignorance Is Bliss nu manasa thethikkuven ;))

That guy is really gr8 to come back with the truth and apologise....Enakkum GK la oru addition ippo....

Bengali's are the most knowledgable people of all states in line with Kerala....They read a lot and many veteran Statesmen, Scholars, Musicians and Poets are from there....
That is something to be appreciated....It also makes me wonder at the similarity b/w Bengal & Kerala....They have a lot of things in common....
Literacy Rate, Food Habits, Political Status, Way of Life and lots more i guess....Two places in opposite directions but so much like one another....
We need to find out the secret behind this.....There should be something which makes it happen in these states....'Curiosity Kills The Cat' ;))

I feel it all begins with learning or just reading....'Reading Is To The Mind What Exercise Is To The Body' :)
